“Scroogled” by Cory Doctorow
This is a must read: “Scroogled” by Cory Doctorow of Boing Boing fame.
So this story is fiction. But for how long will it remain so. Some previous blogs I’ve written address just such possibilities in the story. Take a look at them. They all predate this story. I mention this just to bring to attention that there are many people who are looking at what is going on independently, yet similarly. Yet, differently than what is being presented by the government and what is called the “mainstream media”.
“I can’t even title this.” “Do we Still live in the USA…” “Do we still live in the USA…or will we”
OK those are just the things I wrote about the idea behind “Scroogled”. In those blogs are listed what others have already discussed. However, just to bring it back to the forefront here’s the article from the NYTimes “Google Zooms In Too Close for Some” Just in case there are still some of you who think “Scroogled” is a bit far fetched.
A certain part of the story jumped out at me. Here’s the quote:
This jumped out because, as I mentioned before in this blog, my parents had gotten out of Eastern Europe for some of the same reasons. A different country, a different year the same government control. This fiction is not far from fact. What our country and its corporations are morphing into is NOT what my parents wanted for their children or their children’s children. This quote from the story tells me that my family is not the only one looking at this world, what it is becoming, where it might end up before they know it AND asking itself what are we going to do. How long are others going to let this go on without saying or doing a thing.
I’m going to end this with a translated quote from my mother. “This President, his actors, and the government who won’t stop him, make me just want to vomit.” And then she started to cry saying, “This is not what I wanted for my children or grandchildren.”
I don’t know how many times I have heard that last line from her in the past 6 years.
